There are so many interesting contrasts in this painting - the solid, angular structures in the distance, the wispy plants in the foreground, the organic flow of the red ribbon against the cool blue scenery...
That ribbon is really intriguing. Is the rider actually wearing it as a scarf? If so, it must be impossibly long, judging by the perspective... This gives a lovely dream-like feeling to the whole scene.
